4th of July weekend is always a great time to be up north at the cabin! The whole gang tries to come back from wherever they are, to spend at least a few days hanging out together. We missed Max this year, but he was busy on a ship in the Pacific doing some top secret Navy stuff! Julia and Lillian were able to make it from CA for a few days and my brother Greg came over from Duluth for a night too! Playing games, pontoon rides, water sports, mtn biking at Cuyuna, bonfires with s’mores, beanbag tournaments, Elvis and Neil Diamond shows, swatting mosquitos/flies and usually way too much food is involved. We have so much fun together and consider ourselves so lucky to have this space!
One of the things we’ve made a 4th tradition, is a 5k run/walk in the nearby town of Nisswa. It is a big draw for people from all over. They usually have the BEST tshirts ever, the start includes firecrackers and plenty of red, white and blue costumes. At the finish line they have a crawfish boil, “free” beer, and a slip n slide with colored bubbles. Luckily, our kids are “big” now – I can’t imagine trying to put a soaking wet kid covered in blue colored bubbles in the car, but the kids all seem to love it!
