We have known for years that our son Nate, is highly allergic to bees, wasps and hornets…I’ve always worried that I might be too. I was stung someting like 15 times when a friend’s dog walked thru a ground hive when I was maybe 13. I’ve reacted pretty strongly to stings since then. I found out the hard way – yep I am allergic. I was weeding our front flower bed and didn’t realize that I found a ground hive. I’m still in my boot so couldn’t get up or move real quick, so got stung 4 times. I took Benadryl right away but my palms started itching pretty quickly, then my head, and my ears felt swollen on the inside. When my vision started to be black on the periphial I told Chad we better get to urgent care. I went into anaphylactic shock about an hour after being stung. I felt terrible by the time we got to UC. My lips started to feel swollen and breathing was tough. The staff rushed me into a room, where they shot me up with an epipen and an IV filled with prednosone and Benadryl. My body reacted immediatly and I could breathe better pretty quick but do NOT want to do it again!! I burst into tears from the adrenaline and my legs jumped like crazy for about 20 minutes. I just could not stop the movement and my heart was pounding. They wanted to take me by ambulance to the ER for observation but we decided that Chad could drive. Glad that we didn’t take their advice, I would have felt really silly. I felt fine by the time they released me…other than the hives and itching.
