Nate and megan

We are so excited to share that Nate and Megan are engaged!! We knew that he was going to ask her sometime this summer but were so excited when he asked us to help plan the surprise for her at the cabin!!

Nate had decorations sent to our house ahead of time, bought a tackle box and I learned to make fortune cookies. Why a tackle box? He wanted to propose out on Gooseberry Island on Pelican Lake. How could he get her out there and not be too obvious about it? Hmmm….Megan loves charcuterie boards but they can be tough to manage for a picnic – transporting on a jetski and all. While looking at food to have on a boat, I saw something on Pinterest called a snacklebox…basically a charcuterie board in a tackle box! After hyping it up for a few days at home, he filled the tacklebox with all their favorite fishing related treats and snacks. At the last minute, I gave them 2 “extra” fortune cookies that Chad and I made. At dinner the night before, we were laughing while reading all the goofy fortunes Chad had written up…these 2 were slightly different and not so “goofy”. The plan was they would casually eat their lunch and have the cookies at the end – maybe after 45 min to an hour. Back at the cabin, the plan included us putting up lots of decorations and Megans parents arriving to help celebrate.

The problem came when the morning was cloudy and cool. Megan did not want to go for the picnic at noon – it was too cold and her life jacket was “wet”. Why couldn’t they wait till the sun came out later for their picnic? She was just not feeling the snacklebox picnic. Her parents meanwhile, were secretly waiting for them to leave in nearby Nisswa. We needed to get the 2 of them away from the cabin! Nate finally convinced her to head out with his overwhelming enthusiasm for trying the snacklebox! As soon as they were on the jetski, we called in her folks and started decorating.

Decorations were quickly going up, her parents were driving over and maybe aft10 minutes later Nate texts us that she said YES! Wait what??? We need more time!! Turns out, the first thing Megan went for in the snacklebox, was the fortune cookies!

Nate was able to keep Megan out at the island while we finished getting things ready…and her folks could arrive! Megan’s dad, Tom, got to sit with Chad and watch some of the drone reenactments from the end of the dock – and Megan still had no idea they were here! The look on her face was priceless when they pulled up to the dock and champagne. We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating with a pontoon boat ride and dinner. Looking forward to the big day!! Hopefully September 2023?
